A new skatepark, designed by a local skater
The skatepark in Doesburg has been completely renewed. On its familiar spot next to youth centre 0313 on De Linie, a modern, fully concrete skatepark now takes shape — designed for skateboarders, BMX riders and scooter riders of all levels.
What makes this project special is the story behind it. The design was created by Huub Slinger, who grew up in Doesburg and learned to skate here as a kid. Years later, he returned as a professional skatepark designer to build a new park on the exact same location. A local story, translated into a future-proof urban sports park.
Designing within fixed boundaries, for every level
The main challenge in Doesburg was space. The skatepark had to fit into an existing rectangular site with limited dimensions. Together with Total Station, we accurately surveyed the old park, and the new layout was designed to fit perfectly within the structure of the previous skatepark. Not an empty field, but a fixed footprint where everything needed to work: from flow to safety. Together with designer Huub Slinger, Nine Yards developed a layout that makes maximum use of every square metre.
By playing smartly with heights, radii and transitions, the result is a compact park that still feels technical, rich and versatile. Low, accessible banks make it welcoming for beginners, while steeper and higher elements offer enough challenge for more advanced riders. Because the same obstacles can be ridden at different speeds and lines, the park grows with its users. Compared to the old park from 2007, mainly built with prefab elements and limited functionality, the new skatepark consists of multifunctional, in-situ concrete shapes. More lines, more combinations, more creativity, and more progression.
From local hangout to future-proof sports space
The skatepark in Doesburg was built entirely on site. Our builders work with in-situ concrete, shaping every element by hand. No standard modules, but custom-made features down to the millimetre. This approach doesn’t just improve the riding experience, it also increases safety and durability. Smooth concrete, logical lines and robust materials make the park suitable for intensive daily use.
For Nine Yards, this project represents what urban sports are all about: local involvement, craftsmanship and sustainable public space. Together with designer Huub Slinger and the municipality of Doesburg, we created a skatepark that works technically and carries real emotional value for the city.
