Red Bull District Ride lands in the heart of Groningen

A full-scale mountain bike course in the middle of the city. Produced in Breda, built in Groningen in just a few days, and ready for the world’s best riders.

On July 25, 2026, Groningen’s Grote Markt was transformed into the setting for the first-ever Dutch edition of Red Bull District Ride. For one day, the city centre became a playground for some of the world’s best slopestyle mountain bikers, featuring huge jumps, technical lines and a 15.5-metre-high start drop.

As part of the event production led by Backbone Productions, Nine Yards was responsible for the production and build of the Red Bull District Ride course. The project was as much about the operation behind the scenes as the finished course itself: producing the complete course in our own workshop, transporting every component to Groningen and assembling the entire setup on site in just a few days.

From our headquarters to the city centre of Groningen

The course was fully produced in advance at the Nine Yards headquarters in Breda. Components, structures and obstacles were prepared, built and made ready for transport before heading north to Groningen.

Once on site, everything came together. The course was assembled on location in just a few days, creating one large setup spanning three distinct districts: Big Air, Park and Dual. The first riders took to the course on July 25, and by July 27, the entire setup had to be dismantled again.

The scale of the project was huge. One of the most spectacular features was the 15.5-metre-high start drop, while the course also featured wallrides, whale tails, kickers, quarters and a series of major jumps. The course was designed by Desmond Tessemaker and Pim Scheers of Pumpfactory, with riders involved in the development process from an early stage.

Red Bull District Ride: a course built for the world’s best

Red Bull District Ride calls for a course that is technically demanding while leaving plenty of room for creativity. Riders choose their own lines through the different districts and are judged on difficulty, style and execution. The course therefore needs to challenge the world’s best while giving them the freedom to push their riding in their own way.

Nine Yards built the course with that freedom in mind. Once construction was complete, our crew remained on standby throughout the event, making sure everything performed as it should while the world’s best riders pushed the course to its limits.

Tim Bringer took the men’s title, followed by Dawid Godziek and Lucas Huppert. In the women’s competition, Alma Wiggberg made history as the first female winner of Red Bull District Ride.

From production and transport to on-site construction and event support, Nine Yards was responsible for bringing the course for the first Dutch edition of Red Bull District Ride to life.

When the riders drop in, everything has to be ready.

Nine Yards remained on standby throughout the event. Because on projects like this, the job doesn’t stop when the last ramp is in place.
