Paris 2024 Olympics: Nine Yards helped build skate history

For the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Nine Yards played a key role in the construction of three unique skateparks at Place de la Concorde, in collaboration with California Skateparks. As the European partner, we were involved in every phase: from production in our workshop in Breda to transport, assembly, and the final finishing touches in the heart of Paris.

Our mission was clear: to create skateparks that not only met the technical and sporting requirements of the IOC, but also showcased the creativity, culture, and energy of skateboarding to a global audience.

Skateboarding on the world’s biggest stage

The historic Place de la Concorde, located in the heart of Paris, was chosen by the Olympic Committee as the venue for Urban Sports, including street and park skateboarding. This choice required transforming the square into a space that could not only withstand the demands of elite competition but also provide a visual spectacle for the millions watching worldwide.

In collaboration with California Skateparks, we delivered three completely unique courses, each designed to highlight the diversity and beauty of skateboarding:

  • Park: Featuring large, curved elements and deep bowls, designed for speed and airtime, allowing athletes to showcase their most spectacular tricks.
  • Street: A course inspired by the urban environment, with stairs, rails, and banks — the perfect setting for technical and creative street skating.
  • Training facilities: Specially designed zones where athletes could fully prepare for their Olympic performances.

Building under pressure for the Olympics

The challenge: a temporary venue that had to withstand heavy use, unpredictable weather, and tight deadlines. Within just a few months, we produced all components with CNC precision, while our welders and builders executed a seamless on-site construction. Modular building, durable materials, and a sharp eye for detail resulted in courses that were both functional and visually striking. Despite being temporary, they met the highest standards of safety and performance.

The skateparks at Place de la Concorde were more than sporting venues. They symbolized the journey of skateboarding — from the streets to the Olympic stage — and united urban culture with elite sport in an iconic setting. For Nine Yards, this project was an opportunity to showcase our craftsmanship and passion for skatepark building at the highest level. And while the parks were temporary, their impact on the sport, the athletes, and the global audience will last.
