How Nine Yards builds the skateparks of tomorrow
Since the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, skateboarding has been officially part of the Olympic program. That moment was a turning point for the sport and for the skateparks where top-level skating takes place. Competition parks have to meet strict standards for safety, flow, durability, and performance, while still keeping the soul of skate culture alive.
At Nine Yards, we have been designing and building skateparks for national and international competitions for over fifteen years. From Olympic qualifiers to high-profile events like Street League Skateboarding and the Paris 2024 Olympics, every project demands precision, teamwork, and a deep understanding of the sport.
A team that connects design, engineering, and skate culture
What sets Nine Yards apart is our team. Our skateparks are created by designers, landscape architects, builders, project managers, and skaters working together. This mix of skills is essential, especially for competition parks where every detail matters.
A skatepark has to feel right in shape, rhythm, and scale. The lines should flow naturally, obstacles should challenge without unnecessary risk, and the park should allow room for creativity and personal style. Achieving that takes more than technical knowledge, it takes people who understand skateboarding and live the culture every day.
At Nine Yards, we follow one guiding principle: a skatepark is only successful if skaters can perform at their best while the park fits seamlessly into its surroundings.
What makes a competition skatepark?
Competition parks have different demands than regular skateparks. They face heavy use, intense pressure on materials, and high expectations from athletes and organizers. Every detail: from speed and grip to curves, heights, and transitions, has to work perfectly together.
Safety and consistency are key. During international competitions, every run has to feel the same, no matter the weather or time of day. That requires top-quality materials, smart construction, and finishes that can withstand long-term, intense use.
Nine Yards turns these requirements into skateparks that meet international standards while still leaving space for progression and personal expression. This is where elite performance and skate culture meet.
From design to reality
We manage every step of the process, from first sketches to on-site delivery. Design, engineering, production, and installation are coordinated in-house, giving us full control over quality, timing, and execution.
For major events, we often use modular skateparks. They are designed to be assembled, taken apart, and rebuilt quickly, without compromising performance or look. Sustainability and reuse are becoming more important in every project.
Our experience with both temporary and permanent skateparks allows us to adapt to all kinds of locations; from city squares to indoor arenas and international event sites.
Paris 2024 Olympics: skating at the highest level
The Paris 2024 Olympics were a highlight of our international projects. We helped build the skateparks where the world’s best skateboarders showed their skills to millions of viewers.
An Olympic park requires absolute precision. Every obstacle, transition, and measurement must be exact. At the same time, the park needs to look impressive and fit the event and city’s style. The result was a park that performed at the highest level and captured the energy and creativity of skateboarding for a global audience.
Lausanne and SLS Paris: Consistent Quality
Beyond the Olympics, we worked on other international competitions, including the Olympic qualifiers in Lausanne and Street League Skateboarding in Paris in 2024 and 2025. These projects show the breadth of our experience, from qualifying events to top-tier professional competitions.
Every event has its own pace, audience, and technical needs. By working closely with organizers and athletes, we make sure every skatepark matches the level and character of the event.
From International events to local impact
What we learn from international competitions also improves our local projects. Innovations in flow, materials, and safety make their way into permanent skateparks and urban sports areas.
This creates a connection between elite and grassroots skateboarding. What works at the top level helps create safer, more challenging, and more enjoyable parks for everyone. This makes our projects sustainable, relevant, and future-ready.
Passion in every detail
Everyone at Nine Yards skates, builds, and designs. That passion shows in every detail: from bowls and rails to ledges and transitions. Every element is designed and built with care, with respect for the sport, the surroundings, and the people who use it.
Whether it’s an Olympic podium, an international event, or a local skatepark, the Nine Yards team brings experience, skill, and love for skateboarding to every project, building parks that are ready for the future.
